Tunnel Lighting Controls
Tunnel Lighting Controls’ goal is to provide you with a complete lighting control system to ensure that the commuter can safely enter and leave any type of tunnel or underpass regardless of the ambient lighting exterior to the tunnel portals.
Tunnel lighting is basically controlling the lighting levels of the tunnel portals based on the amount of ambient lighting of the surrounding area and the speed of the traffic through the tunnel. Length of the tunnel does have some influence but is easily worked into the formula (how far the controlled lighting fixtures extend into the tunnel and how the light fixtures are spaced) for a successful lighting project.
Controlling the lighting of a tunnel portal is to assure that the driver entering or leaving the tunnel has enough time for their eyes to dilate to match the lighting differences as seen from the ambient levels to tunnel lighting levels. Simply, the tunnel portal needs to match the ambient light and decrease the light levels to insure the driver entering the tunnel at a base rate of speed never enters a black hole or exits into blinding light.
Our controls are designed to have the portals of the tunnel match the available ambient levels to insure that the driver can safely enter and exit a tunnel.
Controls must be the safety factor for the tunnel operations. Controls must be proven and fail safe. Redundant controls are always required and controls that can set the lighting to a basic safe level of lighting should all else fail.
Our goal is to make your project successful.
